Downgraded to XP form vista - Problems

Hi Guys,
Could do with and appreciate some help and advice. I have just bought two
laptops, both had MS Vista OS on them. Unfortunately, an essential piece of
software that I need will not run on Vista, so I purchased 2 copies of
windows Xp and installed the first one today. When I go to the device
manager I have the following problems drivers are not installed for the
following:
Other Devices:
Base System Device x3
Network Controller
PCI Device
SM Bus Controller
Video Controller
Video Controller (VGA compatible)

I thought XP would install the above generic drivers

So I went to the Laptop Web site installed a program that checked for
drivers and would update any out of date ones, first I had to install Net
Framework 3.0. When I ran the update program, I got an message to install
UAA Class Drivers ?. I rebooted the machine and got a error message To
install
SYS32\Drivers\PCI.SYS. So I tried as recommended by Windows to repair the
OS, but it asked me for an Administrators Password... I did not put one in
as I was not asked to give one during setup.

Also I don't have any sound it tells me no sound device installed

How do I go about sorting this mess out..... I appreciate any help and
advice

Some may not exist.

You need to check with the manufacturer to determine if there are
Windows XP drivers for all the hardware.

If the laptops are new enough, you should be able to return them if
they are not compatible with Windows XP.

Toshiba, Dell and others continue to sell computers with Windows XP.

Dear Bob,

A clean way out of this - with no regrets - is to simply put Vista
back on the notebook - fully update it. Now, download the FREE
Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 program and install it on your notebook. OK,
now install XP into Virtual PC as a, well, Virtual XP.

Now you have your cake and get to eat it too! Install that essential
program into the Virtual XP (after updationg the XP instalation with
about 80 updates from MS!!! .

The virtual XP can share your network devices present on the notebook
already. I'm recommending this as you seem to have licenses for all
these OS's. Cool.

You will find your virtual XP handy for testing new programs. You are
now carrying around Vista and XP on the same notebook. Just run up
Virtual XP when you need to run that "special" program.

By "repairing xp as recommended by windows" who or what windows...Sounds
like the tried repair was in windows explorer,an actual repair can only be
done by booting to xp cd,select install xp,repair this copy...As for youre
problem(s)
Once xp is installed,& in desktop,youre 1st software installation should be
the
chipset installation utility,then audio/video drivers,networking,etc.These
should
be downloaded from the hardware mfg web site (intel,amd,etc),the chipset
installation would actually cover most of youre problems...

And you also verified that this one application would not run in
WinXP-compatibility mode, and that the manufacturer has not provided a
patch to enable it to run on Vista?

Why would you think that WinXP would include drivers, generic or
otherwise, for hardware components that were developed years *after*
WinXP was released? How could that even be possible?

The password being requested is that of the built-in
_Administrator_ account, not the password for any other administrative
user accounts that the computer's owner may have created. Unless the
owner deliberately set the Administrator's password via the Management
Console (_not_ the Control Panel), it's probably still blank. WinXP Pro
asks the installer to set the Administrator's password during
installation, but WinXP Home doesn't.

You'll need to contact the laptop manufacturer to determine if any
WinXP-specific device drivers have been created for that model laptop.
If the laptop was specifically designed for Vista, there mjay well be
none available.

Return the laptops and order replacements with WinXP installed.
