Hi Everybody,

what exactly is a Per-User-CAL bound to? Is ist the login-name, the Username
in the Profile or something like an ID invisible to the user?

What if an employee leaves the company? Is this type of CAL released after a
certain period of time just as the Per-Device-CALs?

What if a Profile gets corrupt (which happens from time to time in our
environments, maybe the application is to blame...)?

Thank you fo your time.

Ole

Re: Per-User-CAL

EULA-wise, a Per User TS CAL is dedicated to one *person*.
Technically, it isn't bound to anything, since Per User licenses
aren't managed in Windows 2003.

In Windows 2008, there will be a possibility to get a report about
the usage of your Per User licenses. And they will have an
expiration like Per Device TS CALs, with automatic release back to
the license pool.

Re: Per-User-CAL

Thanks for the information.

We have decided to switch form per-device to per-user, since we only have a
few people where each of them uses a computer in the office, one notebook
and one at home. Can you tell me how to switch on the license server?

Where do I chnage the setting?

Do I have to deactivate and reactivate?

Do I have to reinstall?

Thanks again for your time

Ole

Re: Per-User-CAL

You have to call the Clearinghouse to get your licenses re-issued
as Per User licenses, which you then have to install as a new
license pack on the Licensing Server.
You need to have Software Assurance on your existing TS CALs. For
details:

Windows Server 2003 Pricing and Licensing FAQ
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/howtobuy/licensing/pricl
icfaq.mspx

Q. Will I be allowed to switch between Windows Device CALs and
Windows User CALs? What about TS CALs?

A. Customers who have active Software Assurance coverage for
Windows Server CALs under agreements signed on or before April 1,
2003 may change their Windows Device CALs to Windows User CALs at
the time of the annual true-up process. These transition rights can
also be applied in the same way for switching from TS Device CALs
to TS User CALs for TS CALs covered by SA under agreements signed
on or before April 1, 2003.

Customers with current Software Assurance for CALs acquired after
April 1, 2003 may switch their Device CALs to User CALs and User
CAL to Device CALs upon renewal of their Software Assurance
coverage for those CALs.
