Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files
(x86)\Nero\Nero8\Nero PhotoSnap\PhotoSnap.exe".Error in manifest or policy
file "" on line . A component version required by the application conflicts
with another component version already active. Conflicting components are:.
Component 1:
C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.6000.16386_none_5d07289e07e1d100.manifest.
Component 2:
C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\amd64_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.6000.16386_none_1559f1c6f365a7fa.manifest.

Seems like 32bit & 64bit are fighting over "whose da Boss".

Carlos I sent errors to Nero still waiting for a reply. I'll post if-when I
receive reply.

Affected files on my machine include:PhotoSnap.exe DiscSpeed.exe &
PhotoSnapViewer.exe.

Re: (Nero 8) Side x side errors in event viewer in Vista 64

As for suggestions? Drop back to Nero 7. It's a good deal more stable at
this point from all indications.

Re: (Nero 8) Side x side errors in event viewer in Vista 64

Charlie:
Now it makes to with the very same problems I posted about Nero 8 and its
SxS woes.
:-)
Nero 7 runs fine though I suspect Nero 8 trial install/uninstall messed my
registry with video codecs pointing to unexisting locations.
I will investigate this issue in the following days.

Download the Nero clean tool.It might need to be run 2,3 or 4 times before
you reinstall Nero.

Re: (Nero 8) Side x side errors in event viewer in Vista 64

Hugh:
I already re-installed Nero 7 so the Clean Tool is out of question.
I think I will do some manual registry editing, very carefully, and with no
hurry.

Re: (Nero 8) Side x side errors in event viewer in Vista 64

Hugh:
From what I see there are references to "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nero"
that should point to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Ahead"
I found this issue when running the freeware Gspot program
(http://www.headbands.com/gspot/) for pinpointing audio/video codecs in my PC.
There are a bunch of video codecs tagged as "Problem", 95% of which are Nero
related.
I guess I will have to take note of each of those issues and make the
necessary registry modifications for correcting file locations.
Seems as if Nero were hard-coding 32-bit registry entries to point to
C:\Program Files in Vista x64 systems!
Bad programming habit...
Now I wonder, would those SxS internal fights you are having be caused by a
similar mistake?

Re: (Nero 8) Side x side errors in event viewer in Vista 64

Carlos ; nice detective work so far. One question, these errors in the event
viewer do not seem to affect programs in Nero 8. Every program I run in Nero
8 works fine? Have you found errors that affect the operation of a Nero 8
program?
Nero 8 seems to run fine.

Comments?

Re: (Nero 8) Side x side errors in event viewer in Vista 64

Hugh:
No comments since I went back to Nero 7 very quickly.
I did observe, like you, that there seemed to be no functionality issues in
spite of the event viewer SxS errors.
Regarding to the **registry errors** I found with the codecs, my best guess
so far is that Nero 8 created those extra entries that point to C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Nero\DSFilter
Nero 7 stores them in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter
Note that both paths are quite different.
So I guess I ended up with duplicate entries in the registry for each
filter, one from Nero 8 pointing to nowhere, and another one from Nero 7
pointing to the right file.
I have 43 Ne*.ax files in that situation.

Nero-8.1.1.0

Nero-8.1.1.0

Tried to fresh install Nero-8.1.1.0.did error when tried to run it, used clean tool, will not work, maybe because I installed it to program files and not to X86 program. any way to install this I did a restore so all should be back as before install.

Re: (Nero 8) Side x side errors in event viewer in Vista 64

It just struck me - they do sell different versions, don't they? Different
price - different funtions! But the same application and installer, your's
may simply not be affected for this reason?

Re: (Nero 8) Side x side errors in event viewer in Vista 64

I also get these errors.

Activation context generation failed for "D:\Programs\Nero\Nero8\Nero
Toolkit\DiscSpeed.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "" on line . A
component version required by the application conflicts with another
component version already active. Conflicting components are:. Component 1:
C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\amd64_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.6000.16386_none_1559f1c6f365a7fa.manifest.
Component 2:
C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.6000.16386_none_5d07289e07e1d100.manifest.

NOTE: that installing this update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932406
will cause more of those errors, more often.
