Re: AVG antivirus free version software in Windows Vista

I was a loyal AVG fan. I had a small problem with it on Vista X64 and
decided to try Avast. After installation Avast picked up a couple of
virus's which AVG seemed to have missed - I've changed my loyalties!

The AVG Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware Free Editions, along with a firewall
(Vista has one built in), will provide the common home computer with
adequate protection. There are also other free security programs you may
consider to use, such as Avast, AntiVir, AdAware, Avira, Spybot S&D and
Comodo AV. Google a bit about.

Here are some tests of security software:

This is Norton's removal tool, you need it to uninstall the trial AV:

Dump Norton!

As for other anti virus software, AVG and Avast are just as good (free
versions). As for other security Vista has its own firewall and it also has
its own spyware/malware application - Windows Defender.

Re: AVG antivirus free version software in Windows Vista

Be a bit careful though. Don't use any program unless you can find a
reputable source that did a review on it. In the past week I have seen three
different fake anti-malware programs that actually are just carriers for
additional malware on your computer. As a starting point, don't install a
program that comes from a place that can't spell "malware" on its website.

The ones I saw were PCSecureSystem, PrivacyGuard, and SecurityDefender. All
three installers were also digitally signed.

Good point from Jesper.

Consult Eric Howes' anti-spyware site for a list of known rogue
anti-spyware:

RE: AVG antivirus free version software in Windows Vista

I use AVG for home Vista and at work. I prefer AVG over the rest.

Re: AVG antivirus free version software in Windows Vista

I use AVG on a few PC's running Vista. It runs great, and isn't as
bloated as Norton. It does auto updates, etc. as well.

I highly recommend AVG to anyone. :) 32 bit and 64 bit available.
