I'm dual booting Vista Ultimate x64 and my previous operating system XP
Professional x86. The problems I am describing here occurs only on Vista and
even though it's related to other programs, they don't happen on XP, so I
thought it was better to post them on 64bit forum. I've downloaded all the
updates for my system.
1) I use Outlook 2007 for e-mail and notes (I have notes links on my desktop
for easier access). The problem is that whenever I open Outlook for the
first time, it won't ask for my password ever again until I reboot. I have
posted similar question on Outlook.General forum, but they pointed me to a
website about this error on Office 97. It said it could be something related
to my anti-virus (Nod32 latest version). But since it doesn't happen on XP
at all, I doubt it would be Nod32. It is more like Windows Defender is
causing this problem.
2) I like to use windows explorer with Detailed view sorted by file type. On
XP x86, I just open any folder, hit Detailed view, sort it by file type and
go to Options/Apply to All Folders and voilá, all the other folders will
open with this view, but not Vista x64. It insists to open different views
depending apparently on the contents of this folder. For example, folders
with pictures will show me thumbnails; folders with *.mp3 files will show me
mp3 details (album, view rate, etc). How can I have the same view settings
for ALL folders?
3) Since I use keyboard United States International (sometimes I type in
portuguese or french), my latest version of ICQ won't type quotes properly,
the ' sign. Instead of waiting for the next letter I type, it will just
double the quote like ... '' ... and wait for the next keyboard letter.
Again, it may seem an ICQ problem, but it doesn't happen on XP x84 running
the same keyboard type and the same ICQ version.
4) I like to play Age Of Empires 1.0c every now and then, but on Vista x64 I
just can't load a previously saved game. The system will crash and it will
go back to my desktop asking me if i want to check for solutions online
(what is that option by the way? It NEVER finds any solution at all, it will
just close the program). Any fix for this?
5) Since there's no version of RealPlayer to be installed on Vista x64
systems, how can I be able to open/run *.ram files? Is there a driver I
could use to view these files with Windows Media Player or Winamp? Or is
there any other program to open these files?
6) Where can I get more dreamscene videos? I'm tired to see the ones
included in the package. Can I have my own personal videos in there? How?
I've looked for it and found this Windows Blinds program to be installed and
give me the same effect, but I didn't want to install any third party
program since Windows has already given me this feature.
7) My system is taking too long to boot up, about 2 minutes since I type my
password until the HD led stops blinking. I am running an Intel Core2 Duo
1.7ghz with 2 mb of ram and a good Intel MotherBoard. Even though I don't
have a SATA2 hard drive (still and IDE), I guessed boot up should be a
little faster. I have the same usual programs running at start up MSN, ICQ,
Skype, Nod32 and DUMeter only.
8) I had a hard time finding a way to have a shortcut to my ADSL internet
connection on my desktop, but it's there. I also added a link to this
shortcut on my StartUp folder, but it doesn't work. Everytime I boot up I
have to click on my desktop icon. Is there a way to get it running
automaticly? Again, it works fine on XP x86.
