Logging in

I received an older computer with Windows 2000 on it. It works fine, but
there is one thing I need to change. The person who gave it to me had an
account on it that he called "me". When I turn the computer on and get to the
log-in screen, it tries to automatically log in with this account. However,
the password on it no longer works and so it keeps coming up with the "wrong
username or password" error. However, I just log in as the administrator. How
I can I stop it from doing this? I deleted the account but it still continues
to do this. Any information will be appreciated,

You can run regedit.exe and navigate to;
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
edit the Reg_Sz string values
"DefaultUserName"
and
"DefaultPassword"
to reflect the correct username and password. (note: the password for an
autologon account can not be blank) Make sure you know the password for the
local administrator account before hand.

Login as Administrator. Go to Control Panel/Users & Passwords. Set up an
alternative user name for yourself and make sure it is also part of
Administrators group. Make sure you remember the new password. Check box
to force you to login under that username, then reboot PC and login
under that username. You should now use that username to do all your
work, not the Administrator account.

That should stop the previous username from appearing. If all goes well,
go to Documents and Settings and remove the old rogue folder and
files. Note. Some of the files contained within may not allow you to
delete them from Windows. If not just forget about them. If you really
want to delete them you will have to do so from recovery console, but it
will be a long tedious procedure to do that. (Ive done it myself).

Thanks for telling me this. I was able to delete the "Defaultusername."
However, I was unable to find "Defaultpassword". Is it renamed something
else, or is it in another folder?
