Just thought I'd post my findings on how to change the settings with webview
in relation to My Computer, Recycle Bin, and Control Panel. If anyone's
interested, I (a person of limited HTML knowledge) found it quite easy, so
you probably would too!
First of all, all the files that need modification are in C:\Windows\Web.
System and hidden files must me shown. The folder called FOLDER.HTT controls
how all folders look (Except the WINDOWS and SYSTEM folders). In the "style"
section of the file, right near the top, some of the major changes can be
made. P.S. To enable wedia preview, which is very handy, scroll down to the
"script" section (not far down) and look for the line "var wantMedia =false;
// cool, but may hinder media file manipulation" Change the false to "true".
To change the webview settings in the WINDOWS and SYSTEM folders, go to the
respective folders and show all hidden and system files. They each have
their own FOLDER.HTT which can be altered. Be careful with these.
Next, back in the web folder, to change the webview for My Computer, Recycle
Bin, and Control Panel (and others, too) look for the file called
WEBVIEW.CSS. When I went to edit mine, it opened in FrontPage. It's a very
small file, but this is basically the same as the "style" section of
FOLDER.HTT. By editing WEBVIEW.CSS, you change the way the above three
mentioned items look. Have fun, and always backup first...I simply make a
copy of C:\Windows\Web and rename it to C:\Windows\Web98. Then I make
changes to the web folder. If something should go horribly wrong (which
really couldn't be that bad anyway) I simply delet the web folder and rename
web98 back to web. Enjoy!
Oh, by the way, if you want a very cool media player preview (for WMP 9) let
me know and I'll give you the clsid number. It's very neat!
