HP says my Compaq Presario V5306US is Vista compatible and on their
website they give detailed directions to upgrade to Vista, offering a
BIOS upgrader, Vista compatibility checker, etc. all in one download:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...=en&product=3245653&lang=en&docname=c00678123
All went well, I installed Vista Home Premium 64 and found HP provided
no drivers for the modem or sound card. Pretty useless to have a
machine for travelling w/o a working modem...
I emailed them and their reply in part:
"I regret to inform that, as HP has not yet started bundling Windows
Vista 64 bit operating system or any upgrades for it, therefore, HP
cannot provide any drivers or technical support on upgrading to Windows
Vista 64 Bit operating system. However, depending on the requests that
we are receiving from our customers, HP may as well release the 64 Bit
drivers. As soon as the drivers are released, you will be notified
through email. Also, I request you to keep checking the HP support and
drivers page of your Notebook for the same."
Result, my notebook is back to XP, Vista is gone from my desktop and my
plans to convert to Vista 64 only are dead for now.
Adios, just sign me:
