How do I get the project References nodes to appear in Visual Studio solution explorer

In other versions of Visual Studio that I have used, each project has a References node underneath the project in Solution Explorer<br/>
so I can add or remove references. The version I am using allows me to right click the project and select Add References...<br/>
The trouble is, I need to remove all references and start over and I cant seem to figure out either how to do this<br/>
or how to find a reference node to view my references and delete particular ones.<br/>
So how do I get the project reference nodes to appear under the projects in the solution explorer of Visual Studio?<br/>

I am working with an VB.NET ASP.NET web project but I have also not seen the References nodes in a Forms application I built using VB.NET.<br/>
AS far as I can tell everything else about Visual Studio seems to work fine.<br/>

The references node still does not show up for the web project if I hit [Show All Files], although it does show up for my library project.
