Greetings,
I've noticed a great slowdown of broadband speed when using IEv6.
(broadband normally 785kbps IEv6 reduced to 31.7kbps)
If I use FireFoxv2 speed is normal.. (785kbps)

I've AV checked IEv6 nothing found..
Did a spyware/adware check also nothing found.
Did a repair of IEv6 from ME nothing changed.
Did a full Registry scan nothing found.

Anyone got any ideas what might be causing this behavior.

tks

Not sure if this is valid or not, but not knowing anything about the test, I
would suggest you do another test at
http://www.dslreports.com/

Go to the TOOLS tab and then click on SPEED TEST. If the test confirms your
recent number, you ought to consider tweaking your system per instructions
on that site. It's been a few years now but I recall tweaking my system by
downloading DR.TCP.

Hope this helps.

Dan

IE6 is a browser so how are you checking download speeds using IE? Much
better, IMO, to time a large download, either by using a site such as
DSLReports (since you are in the US) or by downloading a large file using
FTP or similar.

Re: IEv6 slowdown

Greetings Mike,
Sorry I lacked detail with the first post...

was running the IEv6 as a browser and did a broadband speed test from cnet's
website.. that test showed the transfer speed as 37.1kbps..

closed the IEv6 browser and opened the firefoxv2 browser and ran the same
test.. that test then showed a transfer speed of 785kbps..

time laps between tests was about 2 minutes..
both test were using the same ip number..

IEv6 is noticeability slower at anytime, by the websites opening page
delay.
any website can take upto 1 to 2 minutes..
FireFoxv2 on the other hand opens nearly any website page in seconds..

a Tech friend said he'd suspect add-ons to IE6 as the slow down cause
only problem with that is I haven't loaded any attachment add-ons..

sorry i can't be more specific i just don't know what to tell you..

tks

Re: IEv6 slowdown

The speedtest has nothing to do with the browser .... so personally I
would recommend that you forget it.

Re: IEv6 slowdown

Greetings Dapper Dan,
I ran the test you listed.
From FireFoxv2 it returned, 715kbps download and 239kbps up..
that was from Sprint in Chicago..
I tried to run the same test using IE6v2 but the website wouldn't load..
after 20 minutes it finally did the speed test, 37kbps download and 24kbps
up..
from same location..

looks like a problem with IE6v2 to me..

Re: IEv6 slowdown

Is the speed test site using Java? If so is this configured correctly in
IE?

> looks like a problem with IE6v2 to me..

v2? What operating system are you running? Win Me only support IE6 SP1.
IE6 SP2 can only be installed on XP or later. The problems isn't with IE
but rather with how it is installed on your system.

Re: IEv6 slowdown

Rocky

I don't know anything about FireFox so am not sure why it would be so much
faster other than maybe the default settings are more geared towards high
speed service whereas IE may be defaulted to the phone service of 56 Kbps,
if that makes any sense. Regardless, it appears that you tested with the
Flash 8 plug using Sprint Chicago. The fact that it took a couple of minutes
just to load suggests that you have a settings problem. Once the test was
done in IE, did you happen to go and try the TWEAK test? If not, I think you
may find that you need to tweak RWIN, and that site provides the
instructions on how to do that. Another thought I had was to go to PC
Pitstop (www.pcpitstop.com) and run their tests. Do the full test and it too
will provide instructions on tweaking settings if it finds that yours are
off.

Sorry I can't offer anything more concrete. Good luck.
