Folks

I'm pretty sue it can be done but I can't figure it out...

I need to enable remote admin on a remote server which is not in my
current domain.

I now that it's basically boils down to the following registry key

HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Terminal Server/
fDenyTSConnection

but as the machine is not in the domain and I can't figure out a way
to access the registry remotely (I obviously have the local admin
credentials for the target machine and I have network connectivity to
it).

Any pointer / idea most welcome

Thanks

Can you connect to a shared drive on the remote server, i.e.
\\server\c$, using the local admin credentials?

Re: Tricky: enabling remote connections remotely

Hi,

Out of curiosity, have you tried any of the following:

- Contact the administrator for the domain that it is in and
have them enable remote desktop via group policy

- Contact a person that is physically near the server and
have them logon to the console and enable remote desktop

- Have someone grant you access to the server console
via KVM over IP or other similar remote technology

I'm wondering because in my experience it is usually
easier and faster to use normal methods and in cases
where it is not there is an interesting story. Also I have
seen instances where unauthorized users manage to get
the administrator password for a server but are unable
to access via TS because it is disabled.

Thanks.

Re: Tricky: enabling remote connections remotely

Have you tried using TSWMI? It is available on XP/Win2k3 and above.
Please visit the following for more info:

That made the trick and saved me a 300 miles roundtrip to the server
room :)

Thanks !
