ANOTHER Unable To Install Updates Problem

Hi people ,

I another one that is unable to install MS updates of the web site.

I am running XP Pro SP2 and I only do updates occasionally , and yesterday
I needed to do a update for a daylight saving patch and I also decided to
install the high priority updates as well.
And I couldn't do any of the updates , I had managed to download all the
updates , but I just can't install them !
From what I have read /told , I followed ALL the steps in this KB article :

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798

But not one of these methods worked.

What is actually happening is that I am unable to install any of the updates
that I have already downloaded , the only updates that I can install are the
ones that I have not downloaded and are still on the update web site .

I want to be able to remove the downloaded updates ( not installed ) that I
have on my computer so that I can start fresh again to do the updates.

Does anybody know how I can remove these downloaded updates that haven't
been installed yet ?

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply.

I followed your first link and did the diagnostic , installed a few things
.... etc and all the boxes came up as "Passed".

But when I tried to do the update , I still got the same problem , it just
won't install the already 10 downloaded packages.
Even tried to re-boot the system , still no go.

What I need to do is to remove these 10 downloaded packages from my system
so that I can do run the update again and install the package from the
update web site.
Do you know how to remove these downloaded packages that are sitting there
waiting to be installed.

Thanks.

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update,
from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after
you repair a Windows XP installation
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

Doesn't help?

Get Dial-a-Fix:
http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

Use its options to fix:
- Windows Installer
- Windows Update
- All the Registration Center options.

Turn off the "Empty System32\Catroot 2"
Do NOT do "Flush SoftwareDistribution".

Then click "GO" and wait until it is done... Reboot will be needed.

- Download/Install Windows Update v3.

http://download.windowsupdate.com/W...one/7.0.6000.381/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe
(You *may* need to install it using the command line switch "/wuforce"
right after the reboot - immediately after logging in.)

- Download/Install the 927891 patch.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7A81B0CD-A0B9-497E-8A89-404327772E5A

- Reboot.

- Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and scan for/install updates.

- Come back and let us know how things went!

Have tried that method twice and it won't work

Tried that as well 3 times and still won't fix the problem , I ended up
flushing the SoftwareDistributation on my last attempt.
The closest I have got is to be able to redownload the updates , but they
still failed to install.

This too I installed and rebooted and I still can't install any updates .

I tried to install this patch both by double clicking on it an through the
Run box and it wouldn't install , I kept getting the error message of :
"Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf . Make sure
Cryptographic Services is running"

Cryptographic services are running I have started and stopped it about 5
times so far.

This is the first original message that I actually got when I tried to
install the downloaded package KB 933360 , which is a update for daylight
savings and after that , when I tried to do any updates , I just wouldn't
work and kept getting all these error messages.

>
> - Reboot.

Did that and still it is no good.
>
> - Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and scan for/install updates.
>
> - Come back and let us know how things went!

Did that , I can scan for updates and it will list them but they just won't
install.
I keep getting the error code of : 0x8007F0DA

I have also add these sites to the Trusted Web Site in the Security Tab as
suggested in one article that I have read :
http://*.update.microsoft.com
https://*.update.microsoft.com
http://download.windowsupdate.com

Have checked the all the Certificates in the Trusted Root Certification
Authority in the Content Tab and I have gone through 8 out of the 10 methods
described in this article.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798

I have got all these problems simply because I wanted to install a daylight
savings update .
I live in Western Australia and last year , 2006 , daylight savings was
introduced AGAIN for ANOTHER trial period and I installed the MS daylight
savings patch and after the daylight savings finished , I remove it and then
reinstalled it the other day when the time zone changed back to daylight
savings time and this is where I started getting this problem of being
unable to install any updates.

I have tried just about everything that I found searching the MS web sites
and the KB , so I am stuffed if I know how to fix this problem.

Have you got any other suggestions >

Thanks for all your help.

I tried method 10 that you have suggested , I was able to re-download the
updates but they failed to
install.
I also disabled my anti -virus software , which I have been doing for the
last day or so when trying to do the updates.

Generally , I have tried just about everything mentioned in all the links
people have mentioned , I have also rechecked everything else and I have
added the MS updates sites to "Trusted Sites" , enabled cookies for
microsoft.com and windows.update.com
Also it is not a MTU problem when downloading because my other secondary XP
Pro machine that is connected to the same router has no problems in updating
and I have switched on /off my firewall without any noticable results.

I have not installed any new programs nor have I had any problems lately
with XP.

I have tried everything that everybody has suggested and I am still unable
to fix the problem , I have never seed a problem likt it.

Have you got any other suggestions ?

Thanks.

Did you look for the 0x8007F0DA error (which you didn't mention in your
first post to /this/ newsgroup) at either of the pages above?

Are the updates offered at and are you able to install them via

Have you considered opening a free support incident? (Did I mention the
support is free?!)

Hi PA Bear

Thanks for your response.
I have top posted my reply so at to retain the entire Ng posting.

I though I had posted Error Code : 0x8007F0DA in one of my replies in this
Ng , looks like I didn't.

I did compare the errors listed on bleepingcomputer.com and there was no
entry for Error Code : 0x8007F0DA , I tried doing resolution 1 and
resolution 2 and it didn't work .
I have checked out all the other links that you have posted and none of them
really can fix my problem.

I have submitted a support incident to MS detailing my problem and the steps
that I have taken to fix it along with all the log files that they have
requested.

So now I will have to wait for a reply.

Thank you for all the time you have spent trying to fix my update problem.

When I get an anwser and a fix for the update problem I will post it back in
this Ng.

Thanks for the reply,
I had tried your suggestion of re-registering the dlls but it's still no
good , I keep getting the error code of 0x8007F0DA

Basically what is happening is that I can go through all the updating steps
, download the selected updates to my machine , do the installation
initialisation , BUT the installation then FAILS and produces the error code
: 0x8007F0DA

You may not hafta wait--OR get rid of the downloaded updates. I have
used the procedure below, recommended by Bob ((leanin' cedar) in a previous
ng-post (see Joe Medford - 8.10.07) - it worked. Just re-register as
outlined below. Has fixed for me numerous instances of nearly identical
problems as yours. Does much the same as several MS-referenced 'how-to's',
but seemingly abbreviated to bare necessities.

1. Click on Start and then click Run,
2. In the open field type "REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL" (without quotation marks) and
press Enter.
3. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded" message,
click OK.
4. Please repeat these steps for each of the following commands:
REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL
REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL
REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL

Hope it works for you as it did for me and several others. sdlomi2
