I tried method 10 that you have suggested , I was able to re-download the
updates but they failed to
install.
I also disabled my anti -virus software , which I have been doing for the
last day or so when trying to do the updates.

Generally , I have tried just about everything mentioned in all the links
people have mentioned , I have also rechecked everything else and I have
added the MS updates sites to "Trusted Sites" , enabled cookies for
microsoft.com and windows.update.com
Also it is not a MTU problem when downloading because my other secondary XP
Pro machine that is connected to the same router has no problems in updating
and I have switched on /off my firewall without any noticable results.
I have not installed any new programs nor have I had any problems lately
with XP.
I have tried everything that everybody has suggested and I am still unable
to fix the problem , I have never seed a problem likt it.
Have you got any other suggestions ?
Thanks.
