First of all, you are most likely not in the right newsgroup ;-)

But to help you get started, have a look under the Device Manager under the
"Sound, video & game controllers" section, to see if the card is listed in
there. If not, and you see device somewhere with a big yellow
question-mark, that might be the sound-card then, not being recognised by
Windows. So, being it's your mate, download the drivers for him on your
computer, burn them on a disk, and install them on his computer.

RE: no sound

Does your friend have the computer manual?
What does it say about the sound capabilities and connections?

Re: no sound

Hi, tmm5899.

You've posted 4 messages so far and STILL have not told us the make and
model of the computer - or anything else that might help us help you and
your friend. All we know is that your friend has "a computer". ;>(

Re: no sound

Find the make and model number if it isn't home constructed and go to the
web page and you should be able to find what sound card is built in. If you
can't figure out how to do it, post the make and model number here and
someone will look it up for you.
If it is home constructed give us the make and model of the motherboard
which you can get by looking at your motherboard or displayed during POST.
You really should post in the microsoft.public.windowsxp.general group
Many motherboards have Realtek sound built in.

Re: no sound

Then I strongly suggest you find someone who knows their way
around computers.

This forum is not a tutorial for troubleshooting computer
problems.

This particular forum is intended for 64-bit Windows
operating system problems, and it appears your are not using
64-bit windows.
