May I harvest my favourites?

Ladies and Gentlemens,
I'll soon be changing to XP,
on my 98se favourites, say under folder
"search"
I have 30 or so links.

Am I able to harvest all the URLs
from this list en masse, so I may place into
a database?

In Internet Explorer go to File > Import & Export... and follow the
prompts to export your favorites to an ".htm" file.

Copy the file to a floppy or flash drive or via a network to the new
system. Then "Import" the file into IE.

I always use the method John Dulak described in his reply, of exporting on one
machine and importing the resultant htm file on the other machine. I use the
Import/Export wizard for Faves and for cookies, since I usually keep my Cookies down
to ones needed for log-on to specific sites that recognise me with them.

You should also look into the XP Files and Settings Transfer Wizard (FAST) for
copying other settings and files:

Be sure to read the various caveats, and use it for only what you want.

The user asked about Favorites which is IE language.
Firefox calls these same URLs Bookmarks, not Favorites.
Perhaps the responded supposed the OP meant what he said?

I would have liked a URL to put into a database

Dunno where you get your stats, but most of the planet is not using Firefox. For
better or worse (worse IMHO), most computer users still use IE. Also, the original
poster asked about Favorites, which is an IE item.

That said, if you are a Firefox user, you would click the Bookmarks menu> Manage
Bookmarks> Import/Export

Thanks to all the helpful people
who offered well intentioned advice.
I can now get <ALL> of my favourites
into one easy peasy database.
(Some of my fav folders had 100's of links)

however, having an open mind, if your link
is freeware, I'll hop on for a test ride, and kick some tyres

Just an aside:
These little scripts become very useful, I am a stamp collector
and to organise the plethora of philatelic sites, can only be
listed in a satisfactory fashion in a dedicated database,
hence a small database say of 12,000 urls can be searched
for dedicated thematic particulars.
So now I can happily add to my favourites ad nauseum,
knowing I can extract the flesh any time.

If you mean CopyURL from Moon Software, I've used that in IE since back when I was
using Win95. I didn't think that had the functions you require, but if it does,
great.

I also use their tiny tray app, ClipClear, to clear the clipboard after large
copy/pastes. It's worked with Win95, 98, ME, and XP, so far....haven't tried it on
Vista yet.

Well, that's what I do . . . into a Quattro spreadsheet,
rather, because it loads faster, with passwords stored
alongside (easy to copy). When I double click on any
URL in the spreadsheet, it loads via Firefox which connects.

Ah, sorry then. Thanks for the "review". I have not tried it and only suggested it
from what I found in a quick search. It claims to be freeware. The 10-day trial is
apparently for the full feature set, after which the "free" version with more
limited functionality is what remains. They do not state anywhere I can see what
the limited feature set is.

I would not install it under those circumstances either.

I am increasingly unhappy with the lack of quality control in the listings at
"WindowsMarketplace"

Well, your comments may illustrate my loyalty to product.
I am an MSWorks Version 4.5a fan,
I adore the DB/SS/Wordproc suite idea
and have become entrenched.

The Works database (that version) does not support
(for want of a better word) URL linking
I shall endure the inconvenience rather than upgrade
to a (downgraded) later version of MSWorks.

Well, the introduction has been made,
now we wait and see if a friendship blossoms.
Software, like first dates, are always full of fumbles
and misunderstandings.
I remember downloading "Clicktray Calender" about
5 years ago, now its a part of the furniture.
