Is anyone here running Symantec AntiVirus on Vista 64 Ultimate?

I use to be able to right click on either a drive, folder or file and select
Scan for Viruses but now it doesn't show up at all, I check my 32-bit
version of Vista and it shows the Scan for Viruses on right click but not my
64-bit version of Vista.

Is this a limitation of 64-bit?

Re: Symantec AntiVirus

No, it's a limitation of Symantec. They didn't bother to write a true 64-bit
version of their software, so it doesn't integrate with the 64-bit Explorer.
But use this as an excuse to find a better AV.

There's a full explanation of why right mouse click extensions don't work on
my blog, but it's old. It was way back in the earliest days of XP x64 that I
wrote about it. Try searching on WinZIP.

Re: Symantec AntiVirus

I'm using version 10.2 for Vista 64 bit and decided to upgrade to Endpoint
Security 11, both don't right click and I am totally annoyed about it, so
what AV do you reccommend?

Re: Symantec AntiVirus

Hi Clayton,

Avast Home Edition which is free, does have the right-click scan enabled in
x64, as does NOD32 (not free).

I'm using Avast on Ultimate x64.

Clayton,
I second Jane C in her choice.
Avast is lightweight, unobtrusive and free!

Re: Symantec AntiVirus

I'm kind of partial to Nod32, but it isn't free. And AVG has a very good
reputation as well, though I don't know if they support right click
extensions.

Re: Symantec AntiVirus

I just ordered NIS 2008 to put on one computer, with AVG Suite x64 on Home
Premium (which does right click). I also went ahead with Norton Antibot x64
as well.

Something I read over the weekend - and I've always been impressed with
Symantec's research papers and such (just not their products) but I wanted
to test NIS '08 just the same ;-)
