When logon, files get created in homedir on network

I can't find where this is taking place. When I logon to my terminal server,
files get copied to the home directory of the users (set on a network share.)
It only happens when logging on to the TS and no other servers or
workstations. Roaming profiles are not setup and I cannot find anything in
the startup group or the run key in the reg. I cannot find where to make
this stop. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

what files?

Re: When logon, files get created in homedir on network

Junk files.

It creates a file called WIND and a WINDOWS folder. Inside the windows
folder it puts win.ini, openrda.ini, inifile.upd, hpbafd.ini, and also a
folder named system. Inside there are no files. It seems to be from an
installation when in install mode. If I delete the files and folders they
get recreated but some users don't get all the files. Some just get the
folders etc. One user gets a %userprofile%\My docs\PDF file etc structure
created for a PDF creator that we use.

There aren't junk files, this is how Terminal Services supports
multi-user functionality for applications that use ini files.
Terminal Services writes user-specific application files, such as
..ini files, and by default refers any application seeking the
Windows system directory to the user’s home directory.

I would *not* delete the \windows subdirectory in the home folder,
I would worry about the users who don't have one.

OK. Thanks for the info. I don't think any of my apps use those files. I
think they accidentally got touched during install mode by me and not an
install. Do you know where those settings would be or where it does the copy
from? I'd at least like to look just so I know. I'll check those links you
provided (thanks for that) to understand a little better. Thanks again for
the info.

Re: When logon, files get created in homedir on network

The openrda.ini file seems to indicate that you run some sort of
OpenAccess software:
http://www.openaccesssoftware.com/WebHelp55/Distribution_Guide/OPEN
RDA_INI1.htm

The hpbafd.ini file seems to be created by some HP printer drivers
when a user print a document.

KB186498 explans in detail which settings are cached in the
registry during installation, and how the system uses the shadow
area of the registry to create user-specific settings.
