Terminal Server Print Port Mapping Issue

Hello,

I have a customer who has three employees working via TS on a Win 2000
server. Only one has a problem when printing.
Seems like when they she connects to her TS session, her printer never
maps to the right port. She always has to go into the printer
properties and change the port to the one that says "ANNHOMEPC: PRN1
Microsoft Office Document". After she does that, all's fine..just an
annoyance to do this every time she logs in.
I've supplied a link to the .jpg to show you the ports.

http://www.virtual-it-inc.com/pics/image1.jpg

Also, I was wondering if it's normal for so many ports i.e. TS001,
TS002...all the way to TS0018 to be in the print properties in the
ports section as shown in the link? Shouldn't they get deleted after
the sessions end?

Thanks for the help,

Russ

RE: Terminal Server Print Port Mapping Issue

Those ports are created for a session and should be temporary. Are you using
UPHClean on your Terminal servers?

Re: Terminal Server Print Port Mapping Issue

Hi Jeff,
No I'm not using UPHClean. Actually I don't know what it is.
Can I delete those extra ports?

Thanks,
Russ

Re: Terminal Server Print Port Mapping Issue

Hi Russ,

This printer is not supported under terminal services
according to hp's chart:

HP printers supported in Citrix Presentation Server environments July 2007

http://h71028.www7.hp.com/ERC/downloads/4AA0-8465ENW.pdf

Having many TSxxx ports is normal, and no, they should not
get deleted after the sessions end. The server dynamically
creates/recycles TSxxx ports as needed until the server is
restarted.

I recommend you replace this printer with a TS compatible
one or purchase a third party universal printer driver solution.
If you can wait for Windows Server 2008 there will be a
printing solution included that may meet your needs.

Re: Terminal Server Print Port Mapping Issue

If you do delete the extra ports, they will just get recreated. They get
cycled to serve your TS sessions.

UPHClean is a utility that can be installed (free) on Terminal servers that
assist in "cleaning" up session "stuff" left over after users log off.
