I noticed that after I downloaded a file an symbol (such as Window Security
icon) was attached at the right hand bottong corner. Can anyone tell me what
is that symbol (icon) for and where can I get the information to learn what
the symbols represent.

Seems to me you have downloaded a file that needs administrator permission
in order to execute or install. If you double-click the file, you will be
prompted for an action by Windows UAC.

User Account Control (UAC) alert icons:

You should be prompted for an administrator approval (if you're not an
admin, you need an admin password). As soon as you've OK-ed the
installation with correct credentials, it should start by itself.

If not, there may be something wrong with the file you downloaded. Try to
run it again, and if that doesn't work, try downloading it again.
Normally, Adobe 8.11 installs and runs fine on Vista.
