Hey everyone, my name is Denise! I have an issue that I've been trying to resolve, I tried the Microsoft helpdesk first. They bounced me around a bit and then sent me here, so I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but here goes! Disclaimer: I don't really know what I'm doing but I'll try to explain as best I can.

I have some error messages for missing files when I boot, namely:

  • MFReadWrite.dll
  • MFPlat.DLL
  • MF.dll
  • mfc140u.dll
  • mfc100u.dll
  • mfc100u.dll (again)

I'm running Windows 10 Pro N (Version 1803, Build 17134.345). Some of these error messages also show up when I try to run some of my games. I think most of them have to do with me installing, uninstalling and/or reinstalling the Visual C++ Redistributable packages without really knowing what I was doing. I messed around with the Redistributables trying to run a game and that's when I started having these errors (although I managed to get my game to run and I didn't have any other issues). I'm trying to get a different game to run now, and it won't launch because mfc140u.dll is missing. I tried to find out what the corresponding Redistributable was and installed it, but I still get the error.

Now I want to know if there's any way to resolve these errors without doing a clean reinstall. Can I get these files somewhere and put them in the right directories? The tier 1 helpdesk had me mount and install a Windows 10 ISO in hopes of resolving the missing file errors but it didn't work. Another troubleshooting post had a guide on running a system scan (/sfc scannow) but it said it couldn't find any corruptions.

If this is the wrong place to post this question please let me know so I can go bother someone else, haha!
