I too have this annoying error. I did previously manage to install a HP PSC
950 driver that actually worked however every time I booted the computer and
attached the USB cable for the printer I would get the Found New Hardware
Wizard even though my psc all in one 1510 worked just fine. This would not
recognize the PSC 1500 series printer driver. So I contacted HP customer
support which recommended uninstalling all hardware and software for the
printer. So, I did. Then they suggested a link for the driver :

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=428800&os=228&lang=en

But I was unable to successfully download the file.
In a desperate attempt to get my printer configured I threw in the HP CD
again, and once again got this (mdfix01.exe has encountered a problem and
needs to close.) HP stated that it was definitely a problem with a missing
system file and to contact Microsoft. Microsoft says check the driver. So
now I am currently trying to download and install the driver:

RE: Re mdfix01.exe

I started having this same problem after installing then uninstalling an
online update for my 2610 all-in-one that didn't seem to work right. Ever
since, I cannot re-install or uninstall my HP software.

I did not see where you found resolution, but if you did I would GREATLY
appreciate a heads up as I've spent about 4 hours on the phone with HP
already and they are stumped.
