Hi

I have just upgraded my server from 2GB to 4GB of RAM.
It has Windows 2003 Server Enterprise 32Bit
AMD Athlon64 3000+ CPU.

Windows will only recognise 3.25 GB of the 4GB RAM.
I have tried combinations of the /PAE or /3GB and /USERVA switches in the
boot.ini file with no luck.

Has anyone an idea of how to get Windows to see the full RAM?

Thanks

Re: Server will not see all 4GB of RAM

We have a similar issue with our Dell laptops. Dell said that the
additional memory is being used for Video and other things, and assured us
that the memory was being used. Not sure I believe it though....
Maybe it's a motherboard limitation on available addresses?

Re: Server will not see all 4GB of RAM

Unless you are using Server 2003 Enterprise or better, or a 64-Bit
Windows version, you will not be able to see and use all 4GB of RAM.
Practically all new hardware can properly make use of 4GB of RAM, the
limitation is not on the hardware side, it is on 32-bit operating
systems that cannot make full use of PAE. If you are using a 32-bit
operating system the person at Dell did not correctly answer your
questions... or you misunderstood what they told you ;-)

Re: Server will not see all 4GB of RAM

Hi

Sorry, you seem to be answering the wrong question, about a Dell laptop,
which isnt what I asked.

Have you any idea on the original question posted a short while ago?

Thanks

Re: Server will not see all 4GB of RAM

I didn't try to answer your question, I added to David's post, not to
yours. And I made a mistake in my post, it should have read: "Unless
you are using Server 2003 or better, or a 64-Bit Windows version, you
will not be able to see and use all 4GB of RAM."

As for your server I don't know why you aren't seeing all the installed
RAM, Server 2003 Enterprise should be able to see and use all of it, it
supports up to 64 GB of RAM, and the AMD Athlon 64 should be able to use
all of it. Perhaps it's a motherboard issue, I don't know. Contact
your hardware vendor and ask them.
