is BYTE no longer used in Visual C++?

[Visual studio latest compatible version for VS 6.0]

I am trying tup upgrade my code from VC++ 6.0 to VC 2013. I am wondering if usage of BYTE type variables should be replaced?

If so, what should I replace them with?
