My SSD died and I had to have it replaced, and I re-installed the O/S (Windows 8.1). I also re-installed VS 2015 Express for Desktop, which I used previously for many months, and it will compile and run my project in both debug and release mode. However, in debug mode, most of the watch variables have incorrect values, and this is true also of the values of variables displayed by hovering the mouse over the variable name. I also re-installed VS 2017 Community Edition, and all that appears in the start menu under "Visual Studio 2017" is "Visual Studio Tools." In other words there is no IDE in the start menu. There are a large number of bytes and files under the folder K:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017, including devenv.exe in a subfolder labeled IDE, but nothing in the start menu.
