Sound Breakup when CPU is utilised

When my CPU is barely utilised, there is no problem with the sound
generated (my sound is built-in on the motherboard).

But when I start using the CPU, the sound breakup.

Can anyone give me some hints how I can troubleshoot this ?

I suppose a first step might be to visit your motherboard site, or PC maker
if a large OEM eg Dell / Hp or Laptop and ensure you have the latest chipset
& sound drivers

I've updated both. But it's still happening. I notice that it's not
due to CPU utilisation as I wrote a small batch

:repeat
goto :repeat

and I run this 2 times to use up my Core Duo.

When I play the MPEG, the sound is not distorted (choppy).

But when I have high harddisk (SATA) activity (eg copy a very hugh
file from 1 SATA disk to another), the sound is choppy. Not only
that, when I play the MPEG using WIndows Media, the whole play slowed
down and it choppy. I wonder if this is correct behaviour and that I
should leave it alone.

Or could be some settings, caching that I should tune. I understand
that for SATA, the DMA is on by default and cannot be adjusted.

I'm not sure, but perhaps run dxdiag, the direct x diagnostics tool - it
also reports on sounds

I've done the diagnosis. No problems.
I've called support for my motherboard. They says that when the
CPU utilisation is high, there would be choppy. How can I determine
the choppiness in my situation is due to CPU utilisation and not due
to the problems ? Any advice ? Thanks.

Open Task Manager and watch the CPU utilization.

I've already done that. But my question is how do I confirm that it's
due to the CPU utilisation and not something else (which could happen
at the same time when the CPU utilisation is high) ?

Look at WHAT is causing the utilization.
