Using dumpbin.exe shows linker version 11.0 (visual studio 2012) when developer says they are using visual studio 2010. Why?

I used the Visual Studios dumpbin.exe tool against a dll for one of our projects to determine which version of Visual Studio was used to create the binary. The developer I'm working with claims they are using Visual Studio 2010 to build the binary. Is it possible that an update to VS2010 resulted in the linker version being updated to the 2012 linker as they suggested?
