I am trying to evaluate TS on our 2003 Server but it will not accept user
login credentials.

This thread below exactly describes my situation EXCEPT I just configured
the server as a terminal server 2 days ago:

http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...5138-4a90-ba10-031318c00d76&lang=en&cr=US&p=1

Does configuring 2003 Server Standard as a file and print server affect the
licensing grace period for TS? It has been used as such for years.

I am seeing Event 1010 in the Event Viewer when logins are attempted.

I went through the whole process of configuration, user permissions. etc. on
a virtual computer successfully but the real machine won't accept any login
credentials.

If it is a licensing issue how would I reconfigure to for administrative
logins to allow at least 2 users to test TS as a method of remote access? We
need to know if TS is responsive enough before we spring for TS CALS.

Thanks for any help forthcoming.

Brent

Re: Testing TS and licensing

This problem (the TS grace period ends immediately) has been
reported here a couple of times. One explanation could be that TS
was initially installed during installation of the OS, and then
uninstalled again. It also seems to happen more often on servers
where the base OS installation was already prepared for by the
vendor server hardware vendor. Is that your situation?

Anyway, there's not much you can do at this stage to get the grace
period back. I would not recommend to uninstall TS and go back to
Remote Desktop for Administration for testing purposes. You could
miss all kinds of TS-specific issues by doing so, and your testing
wouldn't be realistic.
I would rather install and activate a TS Licensing Server. It will
issue temporary licenses, which will be valid for 90 days. When
they expire, you'll need to buy and install real TS CALs.

Re: Testing TS and licensing

As far as I know TS was never configured on this machine before. I had to do
a OS re-install < a year ago due to a hard drive failure.

Thanks for confirming my next step: installing a license server. At least
we'll have 90 days to test. The company, currently under one roof, will be
split between a production facility and Sales/admin office each in different
cities as of January 1, 2008.

Would I have liked to be working on this issue a little sooner -like January
07? You bet but you got he market with the management you have not he
management you'd like.

Cheers,

Brent
