Hi All this does not sound like rocket science but after looking through details all day and trying and testing every way possible I have to say it is a part of the software and hardware that Microsoft has forgotten about.
The problem is that I (and hundreds of others) need to communicate with hardware on a USB port but not only just install a driver and use Word or notepad to communicate we need to send control characters and details direct to the equipment.
My case it is a printer and we use to open an LPT or COM port and send whatever we wanted to the printer, you could install a driver and if you wanted a fancy report with fonts etc and you can do the later with a USB port. It is when you come to wanting to send control characters or give it a command directly that the system lets you down.
Why can't we open a USB port in VB or C as simply as we do with an LPT or COM port?
I have installed a "Generic printer" driver but I cannot open the printer directly to communicate with it.
Why are USB ports so locked away?
I thought they would have been easier to use taking it that everything has gone to "Plug and Pray" now?
If anyone has an idea of how to communicate through a USB port I am open to ideas please send them to me as I have not solved the problem as yet.
