Really cool.

I'm amazed that advertising laws in the USA allow this sort of thing.
If a company here in South Africa where to do something similar, they'd
get slammed with a lawsuit so quickly it wouldn't even be funny how
quickly the Chamber Of Commerce will shut them down.

TBH, we have little choice but to use Microsoft and PC products here in
South Africa. Apple MAC is just too damned expensive here to even
consider. And that's assuming we are even lucky enough to find a
supplier!

Gotta love those ads of Mac vs. PC though. Good laugh!:D

Yeah I think there's a sort of "Agreement" not to do that in the UK too,
I guess sometimes it can also work backwards but here in the US it is
not uncommon and often amusing.

It's not so much an "agreement" as it is a choke hold on freedom of
speech. Here, we can say what we want, went we want and how we want.
Just be prepared for a fight if you speak out against someone or
something. Especially in business.

This is why we've had only ONE Telecoms provider since the early 70's.
This is why we are threatened with jail time "if we don't pay our TV
licence" (which is, btw, a free over-the-air service). This is why we
pay around $84 for a 384Kb/s 1GB Capped "broadband". This is why when
police shoot a criminal in the line of duty to protect us, they get
charged with attempted murder.

I may not like the Americans much (too "high 'n mighty" for my taste,
sorry :o), but you gotta admit, their laws regarding freedom of speech
are second to none!

And it shows in the advertising like these PC vs. Mac ads. Great stuff.

Its not an agreement, its the law.
Adverts have to be true, this is why Apple can't screen the ads in the UK,
they just aren't demonstrably true.
Why do you think there are no ads that claim OS x is more secure in the UK?
Because its not true.
It must be terrible having to tell the truth.

Its not a choke on the freedom of speech, it is a choke on the freedom to
lie in adverts.
Why should a company be allowed to lie about a product or a competitors
product?

Where is here?
Not the UK as we have had several telecoms providers for years and at least
two since the early 1900s.

If that is the UK TV license then you cannot be jailed for non payment.
You have to do something silly like contempt of court to get jailed.

There is plenty of choice in the UK and you do not have to pay anything like
that for broadband.
You are free to choose to pay that much if you want.

They may get charged but they don't get convicted if it was a fair shooting.
Why should the police be subject to different laws to anyone else, if I
killed someone in self defense I would expect the case to be heard in court
and I would expect to be found not guilty.
There is no way anyone should be able to kill someone and not have a court
case to decide if it was fair.

They are essentially the same as the UK, you can say what you like but you
may be sued if you lie or use personal information to defame someone.

As in they are full of lies in the USA?

Microsoft could still sue Apple for the ads. The only problem is
they have to prove its a lie.

I see these kinds of commercials more as opinions, or points of view.
Apple's view of vista is that it is a product that is sub par to the Mac
and OS X (for obvious reasons they hold this opinion). They want the
viewers to hold that opinion too.

I think vista sucks in alot of ways, and I express that here but it is
only my opinion. Some people love vista and that's fine it works for
them and makes them happy, but it is only their opinion after all.
