Files showing as changed when only the line endings are different

Using Visual Studio Enterprise 2017, version 15.9.16, with Git as the source control plug-in, the Team Explorer – Changes window shows files as changed when only the line endings are different (LF versus CR/LF). Is there a way to prevent this?
