We are trying to install a Maxtor ATA 133 IDE PCI controller card, and it
simply doesn't work. The new wrinkle is this: The card has been physically
removed from the system. Every time the machine boots, the "Found New
Hardware Wizard" appears and attempts to install the non-existent PCI device!
Every time we attempt to install, the driver install (or update) dialog
tells us that the driver cannot be found, although it is there. So, we
UNINSTALL
the device, and the uninstall wizard confirms that the device has been
permanently removed from the system, that is, until the next time we boot,
and this sad tale starts all over again. Anyone seen the movie "Groundhog
Day?" This is a lot like that... Any ideas? Why is Windows attempting to
install a non-existent device? Is there any way to convince the OS that it
should stop doing that? Comments welcome, and THANKS! ygo3@yahoo.com
