How to work around the problem that cannot check the 'build ipa' option for iphone simulator?

I want to run automatic test on an remote mac agent and I need to generate a ipa from the build and deploy to the simulator. But the problem is that the build for iphone simulator doesn't generate an ipa file. When I build through the pipeline, there is no artifact to deploy? How can I work around this?
