So I've been having quite the problems with this machine. It had Visual Studio Community 2015 with UWP tools for a year or so now. This was fine until I wanted to start working on hololens applications using he emulator. I installed the hololens emulator, and unity 2017.2.1f1. Could not deploy to hololens emulator for VS. "The emulator is unable to determine if the emulator is running." Nothing fixed mine that fixed other people's. Anyone who had that nonsense fix their machine were lucky dogs. Can't start it in hyper-v, delete it, can't start it, install VS 2017 and still the same. Finally I decided that most likely VS 2015 just cannot be used at all with this, and perhaps cannot even be on the machine. Removed 2015, still not better. Perhaps something still latched on to the 2015 install that was deleted. It would be normal for MS to ALMOST make a good development kit and make it so that it ALMOST doesn't hose your machine in some way. So, lets uninstall everything, because that is what most likely needs to happen. Hololens emulator probably needs to feel like VS 2015 never touched this machine. Uninstalled VS 2015. Uninstalled VS 2017. Uninstalled VS Installer. Tried to uninstall MS Hololens Emulator 10.0.14393.1358, but cannot. It says:
"An error occurred while uninstalling "Microsoft Hololens App Template"
"This product required Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 update 1 and UWP version 1.2."
"Please install [all that stuff listed above that doesn't actually have ways to install anymore and shouldn't be needed]"
So I did the best anyone could in this day and age long after 2015, and used the only remaining installer of 2015 i could find tucked away on my archive drive, and sure enough, its a web installer. It installs VS 2015 update 3 with UWP tools 1.4. Well that's not good enough to uninstall Hololens Emulator. It wants Update 1, and tools 1.2, even though I'm trying to UNINSTALL it. I seriously do not want to have to format and re-install this machine. What can we do to get rid of all of this junk and start over? Need hololens emulator removed AND all versions of VS. This machine has an i7-7700, 500GB drive, 8GB RAM and is running Windows 10.0.15063. It should be able to be decent at running the emu. My old i3-2330 didn't have these setup problems but it was already running VS 2017. It just overheats trying to do it since it is way under spec. Really need this machine with the i7 to take over this work.
