2019 VS - Not Opening Designer on large forms

I have a project that I created in VS 2015 which works fine. I wanted to move up to 2019 however, the forms that contain a large amount of controls will not open. It tries to open the designer and after a few minutes it crashes - closes and reopens VS. Please any help will be appreciated
