Visual Studio 2015 Community cannot download a license.

I have a project in Visual Studio Community 2015. It worked fine for quite some time, but suddenly it started complaining about my license expiration. All attempts to renew the licence fail with an error message: "We could not download a license. Please check your network connection or proxy settings."

Unfortunately I cannot move the project to VS 2019 because Microsoft stopped supporting some of the critical features.

Please help.
