C++ - Developing media application (DirectShow or Media Foundation or ?)

I am starting to work on a new media application that will play videos, capture from various sources, encode/decode videos, display custom graphics, etc.

From my reading, Media Foundation is replacing DirectShow however I have found a lot more information on DirectShow.

Should I be using Media Foundation or is DirectShow a better way to go? Or do you recommend a different method for media applications?
