Deploying PDB files with an application

I am having trouble finding an explanation of the costs in security risks and performance of deploying pdb files with an application. The application is an internal application, although the source is essentially open. Is there a increased risk associated with publishing the pdb files other than the ability to create a better decompiled version of the source code? What are the performance costs to publishing the pdb files with the executable?
