Status Canceled in Chome and IE Edge when Invoking a Windows Protocol from Browser

I have a web application that invokes a Windows Protocol to handle POS printing using the href redirect on a button click :

location.url = gridsposprint:83878,Receipt1608119.png


invoke handler even though the handler is invoked successfully, the browser networks shows Canceled status. What is the cause? chrome is Version 83.0.4103.

It worked in IE 10 though!
