I am trying to remove profiles of terminated employees, but their .dat file
and log are in use. Profiles under Computer|Properties shows unknown users
with today's date. How do I remove these terminated employee local profile
on TS/Citrix server?

Re: Removing profiles of terminated employees

When a NTUSER.DAT file is in use and thus cannot be deleted it is
probably loaded (mounted) into the registry. There can be two reasons
for that:

a) The corresponding user is still logged on and his session is in
active or disconnected state
b) The corresponding user logged off, but the profile was not unloaded
because some application still holds a registry handle open

In case a) you can inform and/or log off the user.

In case b) the open handle(s) need to be closed before the file
NTUSER.DAT can be deleted. This can be achieved only by a reboot or by
prior installation of UPHClean.

I hope this helps.

You might find delprof.exe handy (resource kit).

Re: Removing profiles of terminated employees

A reboot does not work. These users were terminated months ago and the
servers have been rebooted many times. Hive Cleanup is installed on the
server. Any other ideas?
