Mysterious behavior in Fortran

My program writes out many lines of formatted output to a named disk file. Often it works fine. In some cases, as it writes a new line to the file, the previous data vanish and all that gets there is the latest line. There is no REWIND... statement during this process. I can see no reason for this to happen. Please advise.
