I just re-installed Windows XP Pro on my computer today and when I try to
download Windows Defender, the WGA validation checker gives me an error in my
Internet Explorer and causes it to close.

After installing XP, I downloaded SP2 and all the other critial updates as
well as a few optional. When I try to download Windows Defender from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...-AFA4-F7F14E605A0D&displaylang=en&mg_id=10134
, I click on continue to begin Windows validation, the following error pops
up:

Internet Explorer has encountered and problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the
information you were working on might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about
this problem. We have created an error report that you can send to help us
improve Internet Explorer. We will treat this report as confidential and
anonymous. To see what data this error report contains, click here.

The following information is displayed:

Error signature
AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 7.0.6000.16544 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00ad01f1

I chose to send the error report.

After browsing through the forums, I ran the MGA Diagnostic tool from
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 and here is the information I
received:
