Server 2003 R2 64 bit / Exchange 2007 - can I add Terminal Services w/Outlook as well?
Hi all,
I have a situation where a client has to have a temporary office for 4
people for ~6 months. They need to be up in a hurry. For legal reasons
office will need to be completely separate from the existing
infrastructure - separate Active Directory domain, separate Internet domain
name, separate email, etc.
I have a server and licenses that I can reallocate to them - plenty of
horsepower (a Dell PowerEdge 2900 with 2 quad core Xeon processors, 16 GB
RAM, hardware RAID, 4 disks).
Question: I realize that it's not ideal but would it be possible to run
Terminal Services (with Outlook 2003 or 2007) on the server with Exchange
2007? I seem to remember Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2003 don't love
oneanother on the same box due to MAPI DLL conflicts, but I've been told
that there's no problem between Outlook and Exchange 2007 on the same
server.
My alternative is to set up a virtual server on the server and use it to run
either Exchange or Terminal Server. I'll be using VMWare Server if I do this
since it supports 64 bit guest operating systems. I'll also devote 2 of the
drives to a separate RAID 1 array dedicated to the VM. I'd prefer not to do
this because it's more to keep track of and maintain.
Thanks in advance!
