Terminal Services Application Error

Hi,

I'm having a problem with a Terminal Server.
The network is SBS 2003 R1 based. The terminal server is Windows 2003 Server
R2 SP2 with Citrix. The local drive is setup as G:\ , not C:\ (for Citrix
reasons).

I am having intermittent issues with applications. It seems to go through
short 'phases' (of a few minutes at a time - 15min or so) where programs
don't start, and users can't log on. Programs that are already running are
usually fine, and users that are already logged on are not kicked out.

In the System Log, I get 'application popup' error 333. 'An I/O operation
initiated by the Registry failed unrecoverably. The Registry could not read
in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system's image
of the Registry.'

I cannot see any obvious problem with hardware. I am not using the /3Gb
switch. My software hive is about 30Mb.
I cannot see any viruses on the system. I am running Trend Micro CSM.
The main apps on the server are Office 2003, Open Practice Client (and
Lawdocs), LEAP 2003 Client. The BackupExec remote agent is also installed.

Any ideas where the problem might be?

Re: Terminal Services Application Error

Both anti-virus software and backup software can use kernel-mode
filter drivers which can cause this and similar problems.

For a similar (but not identical) problem, check:

822219 - You experience slow file server performance and delays
occur when you work with files that are located on a file server

Also check the troubleshooting tips on eventid.net:

Re: Terminal Services Application Error

Thanks very much for your help. I have removed the Backup Exec remote agent
to see if that is the problem. If the problem still occurs, I'll try
uninstalling and reinstalling Trend Antivirus to see if that fixes it.
I'll post my findings when I have more information.
