how do i port forward

i have downloaded x fire which is an online chat program so i can speak to my
friend using a microphone and head phones. i am unable to tallk to him
because my nat type is number 2 which is symmetric or something like that.
any way, the program help file says i have to forwrd the ports to this other
place for the desired machine.

i am lost :-( please help.

Basically:

1. Set a static IP address for your computer.
2. Configure the router to forward the necessary ports to that IP address.
3. Open those ports in your firewall to that traffic.

There should be instructions about the ports at the program's website.
You'll need to refer to your router's manual for how to do port
forwarding with it.
