Where's Waldo? Where's My D-drive?

My D-drive seems to be missing. If I go to Control Panel->System->Devices,
and look at Dis Drives, I see the drive. It's a 160G WesDig IDE. The
properties entry shows it's OK. However, If I go to My Computer, there is no
D:. Is it possible to hide it with Tools->Folder Options.

I pushed on the power connector and cable, but that didn't help anything.
When I look at BIOS, it detects both the two (C&D) HDs.

Use Start - Run - DISKMGMT.MST

What does it say about your 160 gb drive in terms of status,
partitions, etc.?

I copied that name into the run window, and it could not find anything by
that name. Ah, Google knows about .msc. It produce no result for D:. Just
the other two drives, C: and E: (usb, 150G).

Does it show as having a drive letter in Disk Management?

(Right-click "My Computer" ->Manage->Storage->Disk Management)

Did you try assigning it a drive letter? Right-click, change drive letter
or paths.

I caught BIOS saying it was detecting (detected?) the drive. A strange
disappearance. I hope it hasn't failed.

Well, not quite so forlorn. I took the HD out a put it in another PC. It
works fine there, and I could see the folders and files in it.

I still cling to the idea that when I hid or un-hid some files about 10 days
ago that the process lost the D-drive. It's interesting the C-drive can be
seen at all, since it's on the same cable.

Any other ideas?

Here might be a clue. I just noticed one of the entries in My Computer is a
memory_card(on "Hp00:ar ...blah, blah") and it's on the Z-drive. This may
have something to do with my digital camera that I plugged in last night to
a USB port. It is shown as a Network Drive.

I just plugged in the camera, but there's no icon for USB on the tray.

Hmmm, I have an E-drive that's an external drive on a USB port. I don't see
this drive accounted for anywhere in Device Mgr. Comment on this USB oddity?

Problem solved. The external drive was powered off. It was the E-drive, and
the D-drive was the primary slave. When it was turned off, and the PC booted
up again. The primary slave became the E-drive. Why it didn't become D I
have no idea.

I'm pretty sure this happened while I was away. I asked a certain person to
turn off the PC a few days after I left on a trip. I believe the person was
a bit over zealous in what got turned off. 'nug said. Thanks for bearing
with me.

I still am puzzled by the presence of the memory_card entry in My Computer.
Seems odd, but it doesn't seem to present a problem. Maybe call Canon will
solve it.
