Hello,

I use Win98se,
and I'm looking for a simple freeware (or low$ shareware)
that is a cardfile with adding photos capability.
Meaning that each card can hold info and a photo of
each contact, in a layout similar to a photo I.D. card or
driver's license.
If you are familiar with mIRC, it includes an address
book -exactly- as I'm describing.

I've googled the heck out of this.
Does someone know of an application?

Thanks,
Mike E

No offense, but you are either totally search-engine illiterate
or lying. There are hundreds if not thousands of such programs,
most free, most written for 3.1, 95 and 98. Try again.

Well Thanatoid, I am not search engine illiterate.
And I am not lying.
Did you have to put it that way? I just wanted a simple answer.
I have entered:

rolodex photo shareware photo "address book" "add photo" cardfile
freeware,
and every combination of these and other words I'm missing here.

Can someone please suggest a program,
as if I AM "illiterate"?

Thanks,
Mike E

I need to add something. I certainly DID search google, for hours,
with the simplest and most comprehensive sets of terms I could
think of. I have used google extensively and found hundreds of applications
easily. The only reason I posed this query here is because in this
case I was confounded. I did find three applications that seemed
to say in their summaries that somehow a photo could be embedded
in a dossier page. Each either required XP (unknown untill
attempted installation) or did not do a simple "I.D." style page
(misleading summaries).
If you can remember when you needed help from the gurus
about ANYTHING, you may know the humility I feel to
be reading an inference that I could be "illiterate".

You're too sensitive to be posting on the Usenet. I SAID, "no
offense", didn't I?

To make up for my extreme and inexcusable arrogance, while it's
quite late now, I will try to find a program for you and post
info here in the next few days or so - I am actually a little
busy these days, BION.

If I DON'T find one (or more) I will not only apologize but also
call myself search-engine illiterate. Deal?

thanatoid is not capitalized BTW.

Take care

thanatoid, please understand:
"No offense" doesn't mean anything before you are insulted.
Yes, I am too sensitive to post here. I've seen naive posts from
newbies
who were really asking for it. And they got it - sarcasm and sometimes
even profanity. It didn't help them. They got upset like me, and were
called too sensitive. They probably muddled through.
No, no need to search FOR me. I'll try to look it up again as you
advised. And if I find this thing, I'll be relieved and think twice
about posting any further questions.

I disagree. Still, would it mean something if I had put it AFTER
the "insult"?

Besides, if THAT insulted you I'd hate to see you in a bar
argument after a few drinks. You HAVE been to bar?

Too late. Already found about five for you, here they are. Of
course, you can be one proud dude and just refuse to click on
the links. It's your life.

OTOH, if you DO look at the progs and like one, it would be NICE
of you to let me know. It WAS one hour out of my (admittedly
worthless and wasteful) life.

This is probably going to be your favorite.

It's hard to find, but on the features page it DOES say:
"Contact image. Each contact has an image field. The contact's
image is shown each time the contact's information is
displayed."

Of course, there are a variety of ways to use a program without
paying for it... I'll leave it that...

thanatoid, thanks for taking time to do this, I do appreciate it,
and really, it is very helpful. I need to chill out, I agree. We all
use words differently. Both to criticise or to attempt to search
for software. I didn't realise that I could be wrong, and need
to fix my skills in searching. Also my questions tend to be
jumbled. I overreacted. I've been known to do this.

Now listen, I'm sorry to have led you to take this time for my
behalf. This shows me to be more self-reliant and not slack
off and seek help so much.

Sincere thanks,
Mike

Now thanatoid, I just wrote the reply to your earlier post,
and agreed that you were right. Now I read this one, and I'm
not sure how it hits me. The order of the posts is difficult.
I did find your list of programs. I do appreciate it. I know that
you are a knowledgeable advisor here. I can be crusty. Agreed.
I have mood problems. I have friends. And the 2x4" ain't yet
been offered to be pulled out by any of them. ; /
I mean it. Thanks for your time, and sorry to bug you.

Wow, I may need a drink after THIS one...
Usually it just escalates into insults and killfiling. (Hi
Gary!)

I don't think you need to chill out, it's really hard to tell
what a person is really thinking/feeling via this medium.

Actually, I knew about 3 (IIRC) of the 5 programs I told you
about from earlier searches (or other occasions) and two I found
via a site I just happened to luck upon with Google. So actually
- and having read the terms you used in your search - I do not
think there is anything wrong with your "search-engine skills",
but I guess myself having usually been quite lucky to find
things fairly quickly, I took your original post a little the
wrong way and replied to it in my inimitable friendly and
charming manner.

I mean, WHO would ever think a great address book program would
be called Info-Angel, or Kurlo??? OTOH, HOW many variations of a
software title with "address book" in it can people come up
with? So actually, while MANY questions about some types of
software actually do get "ever heard of Google?" as a reply from
OTHER people than me, yours was QUITE reasonable, in that there
are few (I should have said dozens not hundreds) address book
programs which include the image option.

Also I did not find your question "jumbled" at all, if you want
to see some REALLY retarded posts, go to 24hoursupport.helpdesk

Besides being friendly and charming, I tend to have a variety of
other personality problems - one of them exemplified by the fact
that the next morning, I just HAD to start searching for the
programs for you while having my morning cup of coffee. And I
spend a LOT of my time in front of the computer. So NO trouble
AT ALL is what I'm saying.

I wish *I* had some friends, because some of those programs look
pretty cool! Alas, a Post-It® note is all I need for MY list.

In any case, I hope you try out a couple of the ones I suggested
and let me know which one you liked - or a completely different
one. It's always interesting.

Regards
t.

Re: Address Book program

Hi Mike,
It seems like thanatoid, likes to insult everyone, including me. Then
he will accuses them of not having a sense of humor and calls them
sensitive. Please do not stop posting questions up here. This t* is a real
lonely, bitter, whatever he is male or female. Does not consider anyone's
feelings and thinks it is funny. Some of the posters have blocked his posts.
Some are thinking of blocking them. You should read what says to insult
everyone and their intelligence. You should read every thanatoids posts to
everyone then you will understand. He just wants attention and he enjoys
getting a reaction. I have replied, that just feeds his small ego.I do not
care if I spell his name wrong. It does not matter to me and anyone else
except him. Please pay attention to Gary's replies and some of the others,
NOT to his!! Especially when he gets out of line. He does not know if
children are coming up here for advice on their old computers. Some cannot
afford new ones. Some people donate computers to the needy. Those would also
be the ones that are old computers w/98 on them. Of course, It looks like t*
has no morals and just don't care what he writes. All the names he called
you, others and me actually pertain to him.
Please come back for real good advice from others.

I appreciate what you have written Angel, and I do feel
that things are cool. I like to be at peace as much as possible.
I lose my cool and nothing good ever comes of it. Flame wars
are just retro. No one wins. Anger festers and the only way
to break the loop is to drop it.
Thanks and will be hanging around.
