win2k to xp

Frozen in Mpls

I'd like to upgrade to xp from 2000pro but get a 'does not support path'
error . I'm a working guy who scraped together to buy the xp disk but can't
afford to pay someone to to do this.I'd sure be grateful for help.

Winxp Home cannot upgrade win2k pro, a clean (Partition/Format) is required
PS I dont see much advantage in going to winxp, unless you have apps that
wont run on win2k

I'd like to add that all data should be backed up first of course
