Every day, I can hear my computer running something in the background, but I
can't determine what it is.
After about an hour or so, it sometime stops.
I've checked Windows Defender, and Norton 360, and they aren't running.
I've looked in the Task Manager, but there is nothing on the Applications
tab. There's lots on the Processes tab, but they all appear to be
legitimate. And I'm afraid to shut them down since I don't know what they
are.

Hi FoxGuy,

Under the Processes tab, besides looking under the Description column
to see what the process is for, you can right click on the process and
click Properties to see more about that process. If you shutdown (End
Process) something you should not have, all you have to do is restart
the computer to have eveything back to normal. You can also click on the
Performance tab in Task Manager, and click the Resource Monitor button
for a more detail layout what is using your computer resources.
