Hi,

I have had to purchase a new PC for a user and it shipped with Vista. I
checked out the compatibility issues and the only problem was Cisco VPN
Client V.4 which the user needs to connect to Head Office. Cisco have
release an updated client, V.5, which is compaitible with Vista so I figured
no problem. However HO have said that there is something else that would
cause a problem - the USB Access Token (eToken). So I figured cool, I have
spare TS CALS knocking about I'll just sort this out like that. Now I have
hit another stumbling block - redirecting the client's hardware USB port to
the TS session. Is this possible - please say that it is, please, please,
please!

TIA,

Jarryd

Re: Client hardware - USB ports

It depends on how exactly you are using the USB drive.

The general rule is: if your client treats whatever is connected to
your USB port as a local drive, and you have enabled redirection of
local drives in your rdp connection, then an USB drive is not
treated differently from any other local drive.

Also make sure that the TS has local drive redirection enabled:
Terminal Services Configuration - Connections - RDP-tcp - Client
Settings
Uncheck the box for "Disable the following: Drive mapping"
(this is the default setting).

Keyboards, printers and drives connected to the USB port can be
redirected thanks to Device Level redirection. However, Port level
redirection is *not* supported on TS.

For an explanation of Device versus Port Level redirection, see
Citrix KB article CTX816193 - USB Support in MetaFrame Products,
which applies to Citrix PS 3.0 and native Windows 2003 Terminal
Services.
