I am attempting to use RDP on a 2000 machine to remote into an XP machine.
Previously, I was able to do so. The computers are both on the same LAN, I
am able to ping and browse to the remote computer. DNS has all the updated
PTR records. I am able to connect to the remote machine from a computer on a
different land and I am also able to remote to other computers from the 2000
machnie but not this particular one.

Any ideas?

Re: Unable to RDP

Which error message do you get? Are there any errors in the EventLog
on the XP host? How exactly are you trying to connect? Are you
starting the mstsc client on the W2K server, or is the W2K server a
Terminal Server and are you trying to connect from within Terminal
Services Manager?

Re: Unable to RDP

No message in the event log. I am trying to connect with the rdp client that
I installed on a 2000 machine (not a server edition, just a client machine).
I used mstsc from the 2000 machine to an XP client. I received the error
"failed to connect" when trying to connect to this specific client. However,
I was able to connect to other clients from this same RDP session.
Previously, the XP client was inaccessible by IP address, but I learned that
the XP client was not on the domain. After I joined it to the domain, the PTR
records were updated and this issue was corrected. Immediately after, I was
able to RDP from the 2000 client into the XP client (this was on Friday). On
Monday, the RDP session would not connect. Hope this helps.

Re: Unable to RDP

Are you saying that you are trying to connect to the XP machine by
IP number? Maybe it uses DHCP and has now received a different IP
number? Can't you connect by name? Can you connect to the XP
machine from other clients?
