It was working fine before. Then, I did a scan using Ad-aware 1.06 and
deleted what ever it found. One of the items it cannot delete it, something
in the TEMP folder. So I decided to to delete it from the TEMP folder,
START>%TEMP%.> and deleted all the folders named something like this
Axxxxxxx,TMP.

After that I try to reboot, it will not go to desktop. The ME logo will
appear and htere is a LED indicator light moving L to R. Thats just about as
far as it goes. Now how can I get the ME to boot up/work properly as I do not
wish to reformat it.
Appreciate if someone can help please, thanks

Re: ME cant boot up now

Can you boot to Safe Mode? If you can, run system restore and then boot
back to normal mode and this time be a little more cautious about what you
are doing when running Ad-aware.

<snip>

first thing I'd do is bootup using your floppy and run scandisk C:

If it finds and corrects errors...then try again

If no errors are found...log onto your C: drive and run scanreg /restore
and restore the most recent registry prior to the error

Re: ME cant boot up now

Insert the Floppy and reboot, press 'ESC' and it gives
1/Help
2/ Start pc with cd-rom support
3/ start pc without cd-rom support
4/ minimum boot

After above what do I do, need guidance as I dont know much about the
procedure, thanks

Re: ME cant boot up now

When you did c:scanreg /restore, did you restore it to a previous date where
you know it worked?

Just in case you didn't do it properly, here's Microsoft instructions;

Under normal circumstances, Windows is capable of detecting and recovering
from registry errors automatically. If Windows is incapable of this, a
previous copy of the registry can be restored manually. Windows makes and
stores a backup of the registry when you start your computer successfully
each day. By default, five previous copies or the registry are stored. To
restore one of these previous copies: 1. Start your computer, press and hold
CTRL, and then choose Safe Mode Command Prompt Only from the Windows 98
Startup menu. If you are running Windows Me, start your computer with the
startup disk.
2. At the MS-DOS prompt, type cd\windows\command, and then press
ENTER. Where windows is the name of the folder in which Windows is
installed.

3. At the C: prompt, type scanreg /restore, and then press ENTER.
4. Select the previous registry you want to restore, and then press
ENTER.NOTE: A properly working registry has the word "Started" next to the
date.

5. When you receive notification that you restored a properly working
registry, press ENTER to restart your computer.

Start the computer, tap the F8 key until the startup menu appears and
select "Step by step confirmation". This should show you where the
problem is occurring.

which by any syanidid
Its already 30 minutes st this is state..........what shll we do.

Re: ME cant boot up now

Either I spoke too soon just now, I left is as it is and when I came back
hours later, and continue with the loading, I am now able to launch the IE and
goes to desktop, thus the problem reollved. Many thanks to you all.
